2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

This vintage produced a Cabernet Sauvignon with a slightly lighter color and a beautiful aroma of vanilla, black cherry, currants and blackberries. A burst of black cherry and blackberry greets you in the front of the palate. The tannins and acidity are finely balanced throughout the mid palate and is finishished with a hint a smoke and tobacco.

Tasting Notes

Lighter in color than its predecessors, this Cabernet Sauvignon teases with aromas of vanilla, currants and blackberries. A burst of black cherries and blackberries greets you in the front palate. The finish hints at tobacco. The acidity is bright, and the finely-integrated tannins are balanced. A pleasing wine to enjoy for many years.

Production notes

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were grown on Wilms Ranch on James Creek Road in the Aetna Springs area. The Merlot grapes, which adds softness, came from Thompson Vineyard at the end of Second Avenue in southeast Napa. And the Cabernet franc grapes, which add a floral note and structure to the wine were grown on Mountain Home Road (Thalia Vineyard, Sonoma County). Thanks to a moderate growing season, the grapes matured slowly, yielding bright, balanced flavors. A touch of Cabernet Franc was added for color and complexity. The result is a highly-structured, satisfying sipping wine.
