2003 Growing Season
"The general consensus among Napa Valley vintners and growers is that the 2003 growing season is one they will not soon forget. Early rains and late heat spikes contributed to lower overall yields, but produced a vintage with high quality, great color concentration and intensity of flavors." -Napa Valley Vinters
2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Our flagship wine has classic, rich aromas of currants and blackberries that are also reflected on the palate of this complex, medium-bodied beauty. But the moderate tannins, mild astringency and smooth finish of leather and tobacco are reminiscent of Bordeaux. As a result, this wine stands out among its contemporaries. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes came from the Paraday's creekside Vineyard in the Aetna Springs area of Napa Valley. This warmer part of Napa helps to mellow the astringency and enhance rich dark fruit flavors without losing acidity. It was aged in a mixture of neutral French oak for 18 months and blended with 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot.
2003 Merlot Napa Valley
Aromas of black plums, chocolate mocha and dried lavender carry over to a palate that is soft yet solid in structure with an acidity that reminds us why we love this grape. It is a deeply satisfying wine to sip and enjoy on cool nights. The Merlot grapes came from the Thompson hillside vineyard just east of the City of Napa. This location benefits from well drained soils and cool breezes rolling off the San Francisco Bay. The wine was aged for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels and blended wih 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.
