Tasting Notes
Aromas of black plums, chocolate mocha and dried lavender carry over to a palate that is soft yet solid in structure with an acidity that reminds us why we love this grape. It is a deeply satisfying wine to sip and enjoy on cool nights.
The wine is a smooth rich blend of complex merlot flavors. Fruity aromas and smooth taste with moderate tannin and mild astringency make this wine approachable and elegant. The mild tea aroma hints to the Cabernet Sauvignon and the floral nose of Cabernet Franc brings the Merlot character.
Wine Composition
Merlot Napa 80%
Cabernet Franc Sierra Foothills 10%
Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 10%
Production notes
The grapes for this wine came from Thompson Vineyards at the end of Second Avenue in southeast Napa. Thanks to a moderate growing season, the grapes matured slowly, yielding bright, balanced flavors. Merlot does well at this site because the vineyard is on a hill and drains well. The view of the San Francisco Bay can’t hurt, either. The Merlot was aged in neutral French oak barrels for 18 months, as was the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The varieties were blended prior to bottling. This wine can be aged up to 15 years.
