Tasting Notes
Like the 2004, this silky, smooth Cabernet Franc has a nose of sweet spearmint candies and spring floral gardens. This vintage in particular also has a beautiful earthiness in the nose. The palate leads with flavors of strawberries and raspberries that are integrated with balanced, soft tannins and a delightful, lingering finish.
This wine continues the style of the Murphy Vineyards Cabernet Franc. Nice starting red wine, smooth and easy. Perfect to start a tasting series.
Wine Composition
Cabernet Franc Sierra Foothills 80%
Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 5%
Syrah Sierra Foothills 15%
Bottled September 2006
Production notes
The Cabernet Franc for this wine hails from the Loomis area of Placer County, which benefits from a long and warm growing season. The 15% Syrah from the county’s Auburn area was added to punch up the wine’s acidity. Finally, a touch of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) was added for structure and complexity. Each wine was made separately and aged in neutral French oak for 10 months before blending and bottling.
